NM Snow rugby Champions 2023

This weekend, the boys from Blindern traveled up to Myrkdalen for the annual Snow Rugby tournament. After some really good trainings in the lead up, the team felt prepared and ready for what were 5 very tough matches.

Saturday started off with a game against a well organised Vik team. Blindern showed their defence in the first minutes lead superbly by our captain for the weekend, Theo Romer. The team continued to defend and took our opportunities in attack, eventually running out 5-0 winners.

The second game of the day was against another physical team from Sogndal. The guys showed their true attacking spirit here and ran in 8 tries with our latest Portuguese addition, Francisco showing off some of his footwork to help unlock the defence. We ran out 8-1 winners.

Our third game was against Haugesund. We remembered this as an especially tough match last year and came into the match focusing on our defence. We got off to a shaky start with Haugesund scoring a couple of tries but we kept our composure and kept fighting and eventually were able to score 9 tries and finish the match as 9-4 winners.

The penultimate game of the weekend was against a really strong Bergen side who came into the match unbeaten, like ourselves. It started well for Bergen and they managed to score very early on. The game was extremely physical with some massive tackles going in all over the place and with a halftime score of 3-3 it was all to play for. In the second half Blindern came out and played with their hearts on their sleeves and we eventually won 5-4 in what was, for us, the game of the weekend!

Finally, we came up against our hosts Eldar who put on a spectacular day for us all. Our team were emotionally and physically bruised after the encounter with Bergen and Elder showed some great moves and scored 3 tries in the opening half. After a quick team talk at half time, the boys got their heads back into the game and rounded off an incredible day with a 14-3 victory.

We want to thank all the clubs who came along for a great weekend. It showed the true spirit of rugby with a lot of physicality, aggression, and skill with some great performance across the board. For us at Blindern it is one of our favourite tournaments to attend and we’re already looking forward to next year.

This was great practice for us and stands us in good stead for the upcoming season. And most importantly, this is the first NM trophy we have won as a club!

Thanks to all players, clubs, organisers, supporters, etc. and see you all soon!
